I'M NOT GOING TO COMPLAIN Nope, not this year. I’m not going to subject you to my annual whinge about the horrendous heat here in Milan.
Nor am I going to whine about the temperature shooting from 15°C to 35°C in well under a week.
I won’t complain about not being able to sleep a wink, nor shall I moan about my permanently sweat drenched forehead.
No expostulation from me this year on feeling as though I’m living in a huge sauna. I won’t carp on about how the smothering heat lingers right on through the night either.
I shall desist from mentioning that at around half ten this evening the green pharmacy thermometers where still displaying 30 °C.
Nope, No grouching, no grumbling, no fussing, fretting, griping, groaning or grousing from me this year, on the sweltering temperatures here in Milan.
There, I told you I wasn’t going to complain, and I haven’t.
FOUR FOUR TWO 4-4-2 is a pub which recently opened around these parts. It can be found at Via Procaccini, 61, and is on the corner of the appropriately named, for an English style pub, Via Londonio! The simple fact that this place sells Beamish already puts it high up on the list of places to prop the bar up at. This may sound odd, but Beamish and other English, Irish, Scottish style drinks are quite hard to find in Milan. There are also John Smiths and Bulldog beers. And there is Strongbow cider - which is not at all easy to get hold of in Italy. The people that run the place are cool too.
This place is good because it's not your average sophisticated Italian evening joint, but a more down to earth place a like the good old English pubs. They even have a regular pub quiz. No darts though! But, there is football and rugby on the TVs, which may appeal. They also do food, burgers, and, surprisingly for Italy, have a wide selection of cheeses from the UK, but no chips - planning regulations, I reckon.
Italian bars, the evening ones that is, which rarely have dart boards, are OK, but tend to be a little too flash for my tastes. This place is a little more like a normal English pub - so you don’t have to worry about dressing up in your finest Armani gear to get in. You can also pay as you drink. I know this may sound banal, but in many places here in Milan you order and then pay at end of the evening. This is OK, but after a few of the local Long Islands and Negrones, it can become difficult to remember just what you poured down your gullet. So, when it comes to settle-the-bill time, endless confusion is the inevitable result if you are from Ireland, England, Wales or Scotland. This system is not generally a problem for Italians because they are highly adept at making a single drink last just about all night. So, in the Four Four Two, you can have a hassle free pint or three and not have to worry about getting your head around the mathematics of sorting out the bill at the end of the evening.
GREAT QUOTES TO REMEMBER: SUBJECT - EXPERT If the world should blow itself up, the last audible voice would be that of an expert saying it can't be done.
Always listen to experts. They'll tell you what can't be done and why. Then do it.
An expert is a person who has made all the mistakes that can be made in a very narrow field.
If stock market experts were so expert, they would be buying stock, not selling advice.
An economist is an expert who will know tommorrow why the things he predicted yesterday didn't happen today.
An expert knows all the answers - if you ask the right questions.
IF YOU HAVE SOME GREAT QUOTES, why not send them to info@cap-q.net. We'll add them asap. Cheers |
